Winkworth Arboretum Garden National Trust Review

My mum is taking charge of all the flower coloring pages here as she likes flowers and botanical drawings. I am personally more interested in the animalistic wildlife side of things and am happy for her to share her beautiful flower drawings with you. She loves going out in nature and looking at weeds, herbs and flowers . When researching different types of flowers depending on what letter they were beginning with we thought this might be a useful list for other people too so here it is

Whilst Echo loves fauna, Echo's Mama loves Flora and especially getting close up to plant specimens to take botanical garden photos that focus on nature macro photography and the tiny details that make the life of plants , from flowers and seeds, to tree roots and lichen so fascinating. From local plants to exotic flowers and unusual tree species

Our last adventure travel wildlife vacation was to the maldive atolls and even in this hot climate many botanical specimens thrive. Palm trees line the beach front and unusually bright colored exotic flowers release their scented fragrance in the early evening.  The atolls are nature reserves and as such every effort should be taken not to disturb the delicate coral reef structures that support such a wide variety of wildlife. Underwater photography is a delight with many plant species easily to view . Responsible wildlife travel tours can be hard to find , so we share our experiences here from our outdoor adventure trips so they might help to inform your own choices.

TIPS :

  • Winkworth arboretum has some very steep and at times muddy terrain so good sturdy footwear and/or wellies are advisable in the wetter months

  • there are 3 main routes around the arboretum garden, with different accessibility levels. Clearly identified by markers featuring a red for most difficult and a yellow and blue level walk. The red level includes steep inclines and sets of rugged woodland stairs but should still be doable with a sturdy all terrain buggy if you have smaller kids

  • Well behaved dogs which are to be kept at a lead at all times are allowed to visit the arboretum , it goes without saying that any dog poo needs to be cleared up by the dog owners

  • The National Trust Tearoom is outside the Winkworth Arboretum entry gate so can also be used without having to pay entry to the arboretum if you are in the area and fancy a delicious handmade scone cream tea

  • There are no other snack or water points throughout the garden so it is advisable to take plenty of water and maybe a picnic . The Boathouse has an undercover picnic area with a viewing platform that is fenced in, ideal for a picnic on a colder day and with babies in tow.

  • There are several sculptures scattered around some on carved wooden benches with animal sculptures on the back rest

  • At easter time winkworth arboretum garden hosts a fabulous easter egg hunt trail that can be enjoyed by all and if they weather is warm enough the bluebell woods are magnificent

  • There are some stunning views to be had as the area is quite hilly overlooking the lake and surrounding countryside so a pair of binoculars can come in handy for a bit of bird watching and if you are into wildlife photography bring your zoom lens too .

  • The National Trust Gardens has a brilliant little APP ( only for iphone I believe at this time) that works with your current GPS location .. showcasing National Trust Gardens near to where you currently are. Winkworth arboretum is featured and includes a handy googlemap with directions and a link to the arboretum website should you need further information
